I almost don’t want to write this post because it means our last full year in Europe is coming to an end as we plan our move back to the States this summer! 2018 was our busiest travel year yet, making our way to 27 countries, 15 of which were new to us, and bringing our total “countries-visited” list to 31!
We explored beyond the European continent as well, heading to Petra, Jordan in the Middle East (technically Asia) and Marrakech, Morocco in Africa.
We’ve traveled so much this year that as I list it all out below, the early trips seem as though they were years ago. Everyone keeps asking us how we aren’t exhausted from being on the go non-stop and the answer is WE ARE! In fact, one of our favorite weekends was the one in Vaduz, Liechtenstein where we did absolutely nothing expect lounge in our relaxing hotel. We have found that we enjoy the lower-key cities, and were charmed by people and countries of the Baltic States.
I had a super fun girls trip to Glasgow, Scotland, re-affirming the country’s place near the very top of my favorites list, if not at the very top. Something about the food, people, and country just call to my heart, I know we will be back here at some point in our lives. I have loved having these opportunities to make incredible international memories with friends. I know when Facebook memories start coming around in the next couple of years I will miss all of these fun times.
I also took my first ever truly solo international trip this year, traveling to Krakow, Poland for a weekend while Shai was away for work. While I don’t think I will be planning several solo trips, it was probably one of the most empowering things I have done.
We’ve also come to terms with the fact that booking tours makes our lives easier. As much as we like to wander, explore, and feel like a local, with all the travel and planning we do, it can be nice to let someone else take the reins. It may cost more in the long run but often, the time and stress it saves us is worth it. Just avoid large tour-bus groups.
I hope to spend more time catching up on blogging. I feel that with all of our travel (on top of our real jobs), I just haven’t had the energy to blog as consistently as I would like. I would love to hear from more of you on what you are interested in!
