When it came to planning our ski weekend in Austria, the final decision on which area we were going to came down to the hotels we wanted to stay at. I was looking for ski-in ski-out, spa, outdoor pool, pet friendly, and a nice location and Hotel Alpenfriede in Hochsolden had everything we needed (except the outdoor pool….but we were able to get to the AquaDome to make up for that). I was able to email them what dates we were looking for and about bringing the dogs and they emailed me right back with all the answers I needed. The hotel has been family-run since 1936 so you know they are doing something right!
The price is a bit steep at first until you realize that each day comes with a delicious breakfast buffet, small “Austrian Lunch,” and 4-course dinner. We had our own assigned table (right by the window!) for each meal and at breakfast we would pick the entrée we wanted for dinner that same night. The food was absolutely delicious and we had no qualms about eating all of our meals in one place!
The rooms, and really the entire hotel, is the perfect balance of rustic and modern. All of the décor makes you feel like you could be in a rustic cabin but all of the amenities, like the waterfall shower, sleek dining room, and modern spa, felt very clean and updated.
We arrived pretty late our first night and missed dinner and snacks so they had a tray of meat and cheeses waiting for us in our room which was such a sweet way to start the trip.
Every room has its own balcony and while I am sure there are 360′ of great views, I think ours could not have been much better. It was so nice waking up each morning to the sun and mountains covered with snow. They had a sun deck too that would have been nice to sit on with a cup of tea or wine but we never had the spare time, plus it snowed the second day so everything was a bit wet!
The hotel has its ski-room downstairs where you can keep your gear each day after coming in from the slopes. They even have racks of boot warmers to keep them nice dry for you! The ski-in, ski-out part was absolutely perfect. You walk out of the ski-room and just ski down a short bit until you hit the first chair-lift to bring you up past all the hotels. From there you can hop across lifts along the mountain or you can ski to the very bottom of the mountain and take the gondola lift back up.
Hotel Alpenfriede was incredibly pet-friendly and we saw a few other dogs there in addition to ours. We loved being able to let them out onto the balcony to get some fresh air and then taking them down to the ski area where they could play in the snow and run up and down the hill. Something about the snow just gives our dogs LIFE.
The hotel has indoor and outdoor parking and we were more than happy to have them park our car for us in the indoor garage for a small fee. When it was time to pack up, they brought it right to the door. Leaving was hard but they made that easy too! They even handed us a “to-go” gift of hotel mugs after we checked out!
All of the staff was so friendly and helpful, we had the perfect weekend at the perfect hotel!
