Halloween Cake – a Brain!

The other day I saw a cake on boredpanda.com and new I had to test it out for the Halloween season!halloween cake - brain cake - lovelaughexplore.com

I started with making two layers of chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate frosting in between and then cut and shaped the cake to look like what I think was the shape of a brain. A little tapered in the back and rounded edges.

I made a buttercream frosting with a hint of chocolate and some red food coloring for a more “skin meets blood” vibe.

I used 1/2 lb butter, 1 lb powdered sugar, 1 Tbsp almond milk, 1 tsp vanilla, and 3-4 Tbsp cocoa powder and a little food coloring for the frosting.

I put a medium layer of this frosting on the brain

For the brain part, I rolled varying sizes of fondant into small pieces and placed them randomly on either side of the brain.

I took strawberry jam to fill in all the nooks and crannies for that extra special effect!

I think it looks delicious, what do you think?

It’s an easy (if not a bit time consuming way) to make an awesome cake for your upcoming Halloween party!
