In honor of Wanderlust Wednesday I decided to do a little throwback to when we went to the Western Wall in Israel!
We did a tour through the tunnels first, getting the long history of the wall and some really interesting facts about the wall (but that was almost a year ago, so I have forgotten most of them).
The actual wall is separated by gender and is both an impressive and emotional site to behold. People write notes with their prayers and hopes on them and place them into the cracks of the wall. I had written about my grandmothers and my two friends who were pregnant. There are many people who sit in chairs at the wall and just read prayers and the most devout walk away from the wall while facing it, careful never to turn their back to the wall.
It is fascinating that such a place can be the cause of so much pain and violence. Religion is a funny thing. I’m sure we will be back again to visit.
