Local Eats – Vegenation

DSC_0670

Vegan/Vegetarian restaurants are really popping up in a lot more places than they used to be – and these aren’t you stereotypical boring salad and raw veggie meals. The entrees are a lot more flavorful than most people imagine. DSC_0668

Vegenation has been on my list of places to visit for a while and so when Shai’s mom was in town I decided we needed to head down and check it out!

DSC_0661We had the Tamales for an appetizer. To be honest, they were tasty but were a bit too thick for my taste. I needed some more sauce over them. I really wanted the “Save the Tuna” roll – but even though there is no seafood anywhere in it, Shai still wasn’t willing to try it. Maybe next time.

The pizza was delicious and they use Daiya (vegan) cheese which is one of my favorites (and Shai and his mom couldn’t even tell it was vegan)

Don’t come to this place and order the salad. We tried, and while it was a good salad, it certainly was no where near as delicious as the “Casa Blanca” (Moroccan Tagine Harissa Spiced Veggies).

We had the Carrot Cake with Raw Cashew Lemon Frosting for dessert. You have to have an open mind with this, and since I have had many raw carrot cakes, I knew what to expect. It was nice and refreshing. Very light and not too sweet. Shai would have preferred the brownie. Maybe next time.

I am definitely going to need to head back to this place and order a few more things. It was well worth the trip

And for you non-believers, just take it from their website — “Not veg? That’s cool. Give our food a shot. We promise you will feel better than you did walking through our doors. Seriously, our food is cool like that.”

Truth.
