I have been getting over a super rough cold and while the Dr. can give me all the sedated and cough syrup he wants, I have to do my part too. I really ramp up my more holistic regimen with teas, apple cider vinegar, and even extra masks for my skin to keep my face from looking as sick as I may feel.
Every morning I grate about an inch of fresh ginger into my tea thermos, add juice from 1/2 a lemon or lime, 1-2 tsp of honey and fill it up with hot water to make “ginger tea.” Ginger has so many proven benefits of reducing illness and muscle pain among many other lasting impacts.
I put honey in everything when I am sick because my throat always hurts so much from coughing and sneezing!
I packed my juicer away, and honestly I am too lazy to juice when I am sick anyways so I loaded up on these Suja green juices (they were 2 for $5 at my grocery store which is a steal for juices like this) and have been drinking one with breakfast every morning. There are a lot of gross sounding things in it but I have to say, it really tastes amazing…I think mostly because of the banana and mango components.
I always drink Theraflu or AlkaSeltzer Tea when I first start to get sick but then I tend to wean off of them after the first 3 days and load up on all of my natural teas that I have from Teavana.
This is probably the most gross drink I have…apple cider vinegar diluted with a little water and honey. It tastes absolutely awful but everything you will find says how ACV is so good for you and really helps keep you healthy or get back to being healthy so I suck it up and drink it down.
When it comes to my skin, being sick can really dry me out and if you are not sleeping well, you skin will show that too. I ramp up my routine with intensive face masks. This time I used When masks and was incredibly happy. These cloth masks are soaked in moisturizing ingredients that really left my skin looking refreshed. You just take the sheet mask out of the bag, remove the plastic layer and lay it on your face. It almost feels a little like jelly because it hugs your face so closely. I used Snow Magic to brighten my skin as it can look dull after being sick for a few days and a few people actually told me “you look really great for how sick you sound.” I take this as a compliment and will attribute it to taking care of my skin!
I may have used it as an excuse to get some extra puppy cuddles in too!
What are some of your go-to tricks when you’re sick or starting to get sick?
