Cinnamon Roll Donuts

Before heading to the states for over a month I was working my way through the fridge to make sure I didn’t leave anything that would go bad while I was gone. In the back I came across a recently purchased, yet unused, roll of cinnamon rolls! I decided just taking them out of the can and into the pan was too boring for me so I decided to change it up a little and cook them in my donut pan instead! Just one simple change and I was serving donuts instead of buns!

All you need is a can of cinnamon rolls and a donut pan! I used my heart shaped donut pan because I love hear shaped things!

Set the oven to 375’F.

Separate the rolls in the can. Take each one and roll them length wise until they can form the circle of the donut pan completely. Press the ends together to complete the circle. 1 roll = 1 donut.

Bake 13 minutes and then let them cool before drizzling the icing (that comes in the can, or you can make your own!) all over them! Thats it!

It is crazy to me because cooking them this way completely changes the texture of them from how they looked and felt. I wasn’t able to eat them (darn gluten!) but they were a MAJOR hit in the office! Everyone said they were exactly what you would expect – the consistency of a donut — crisp outside, soft inside — but all of the flavor of a cinnamon bun! It was a fun way to re-work a classic treat. I suggested some people microwave them for 5-10 seconds (since they had spent the night in the fridge) and that took them to a whole new layer because it really softened them up like a fresh Krispy-Kreme donut!
