Ciao Munchen

Last day in Munich

Hallo!
Yesterdayq (Sunday) was our last day in Munich! Unfortunately it was rainy and cold again but we tried not to let that stop us from seeing one last sight.
We woke up to have our second breakfast at the hotel since we liked it so much the first time. I had 4 cups of tea because I can feel myself getting sick 🙁 also some yummy muesli and yoghurt and some cheese and meats.

Then we got on the S-bahn and headed to hersching to go to a monastery. I know, you’re probably thinking “a monastery ? Really? ” but it has been around since 1455 and they brew their own beer and schnapps. The beer is some of the strongest around I am told. They had tours but only in German. It would have been lovely to take a boat ride but the wind and rain deterred us. The scenery was really pretty though, it is right on top of a hill.

We were in the chapel when they began services. It was really pretty, the gold all over and the high painted ceilings and then everyone singing hymns in German. We listened for a bit and then made our way to lunch. I had Bavarian meatloaf which was kind of like glorified bologna but better… And I had it with sweet mustard and sauerkraut . Dad had crispy pork knuckle and potato salad. It was all delicious of course. And the beer was good (no, I didn’t drink one… I had my taffelwasser…) during the lunch they had a whole band playing in the corner. It sounded like a school marching band almost with the songs that they played!

We decided we had had enough of the weather and wanted to head back so we caught the bus but the s-bahn (suburban train) wasn’t working at that station so we ended up getting on another bus and going to about 4 other stops to get people before we finally made it to a stop where the s-bahn was working!  We headed back to the hotel and finished packing before heading to a small biergarten restaurant for dinner. Our last German meal! Dad had pork tenderloin with kaespatzle and I had fish with veggies and potatoes but my fish came out with bread crumbs so we ended up trading the fish and pork parts of the meals.

We went to bed around 10 and had to wake up at 220am! Yuck. We left the hotel a little before 3 for the 4minute walk to the bus stop for the 315am bus….except at  0319 we realized the bus wasn’t coming so we ended up walking to the s-bahn which was only a 5min bus drive anyways so about a 10minute walk. We made it there with 16minutes until the s1 left for the airport  so all was good. Unfortunately since dad and I were on different airlines we were in different terminals and so I went with him to check in for his flight which was at 710am and he was able to get an even earlier flight and then I walked to the complete opposite side of the airport at about 5am to check in for my 11:20am flight.yah….long morning. Unfortunately I had a terrible headache and was tired so I stopped at the first type restaurant I could find and got a bowl of muesli and yogurt and a sparkling water and then went into a corner and took a nap for an hour or so until I woke up shivering I was so cold! I took that as a sign that I needed tea since I also still had a headache and so I had two cups of green tea at a little cafe by my gate and people watched for an hour before deciding to go get aspirin. On the way I saw all of these Lufthansa service centers that have free coffee/espresso/tea! I had two more cups of English breakfast tea for free! Score! Lufthansa totally rocks. So now I am writing this about 1022am in the airport in Munich that has too many shopping stores and not enough food stores and no free wifi and no Starbucks so I probably won’t be able to post this until later.

Hope all is well

Xoxo
