I know, it’s been over a month since my birthday but I keep forgetting to blog about it! With all of our non-stop touristing lately, I really wanted to go somewhere peaceful and relaxing for my birthday. I miss Colorado and all of the mountains and hiking so when I stumbled upon a photo of Eibsee, Germany, I knew that is where I wanted to go. The lake is at the base of Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany and is about 8km around or a 2 -2.5 hour walk around.
There is only one hotel on the lake, Eibsee hotel and every room has a balcony overlooking either the mountain, lake, or forest. It has an indoor pool and a little beach area which would be perfect for the summer. There were several little places to rent paddle boats and paddle boards in summer too. Our room came with breakfast and dinner included which was delicious. I love European hotel breakfasts because they have much better options than in the States but the 5 course dinner both nights was pretty awesome for it to be included in the price.
We walked across the street from the hotel and took the cable car up to the top of the mountain. I have to say it was pretty crazy how steep it was!
Once we were on top, it was very windy and freezing cold but we were able to take a couple snaps and there were a couple cafes where we stopped for a cup of tea and hot cocoa!
If you are ever in the area, I certainly recommend this place for a wonderful stay!
