I have always loved photos, taking them, being in them, looking at them, scrapbooking them, everything. With the blog, I have taken far more photos than the average person (most likely) but most of these photos are just photos of opportunity, nothing glam (aka glamorous). I have to wear clothes, I’m traveling, so most days provide an easy chance to do a blog post or insta photo op.
What I don’t do very often is spend some time really getting glammed up and doing a formal glam sesh. Now, I don’t entirely mean glamour shots like they did in the 80s, but kinda. Don’t get me wrong, I love the photos of people frolicking in fields just as much as the next person but there is something very fabulous in having someone do your hair and makeup for you, put you in a beautiful dress and take photos of you that make you feel like a painting.
When my friend Roberta asked me to do this very thing, I was a bit wary. It’s not really my image or something I would show on my blog so I didn’t know what to expect or what I would even do with the photos, but I am here to tell you it was amazing!
We go shopping, get pedicures, get massages & facials to relax and pamper ourselves, so why not do something that can last even longer! Spending a couple hours letting someone else do my hair and makeup and then wrap me in a fluffy ball of tulle was exactly what I never knew I needed, and it is probably what you never knew you needed too!
Now you’re saying, sure Kali, but what am I supposed to do with those photos? Answer: uh, keep them! Give them to your kids? Grandkids? Spouse? Keep them for when you have any of those in the future? Just look at yourself and be like, “damn, I look good.” It doesn’t have to be for anything! You don’t need to have a reason!
I have come to the conclusion that everyone seriously needs to have a day to get glam. There are a million reasons why “you can’t” or “feel weird” about it, but just find that one reason why you should, and then take this time and do it for yourself, you won’t regret it!
