Travel Purse Essentials

I have been living out of a suitcase for the last month, a trial in its own right, but I have also been taking trips every weekend in order to spend as much time with family as possible before we move to Germany.

The more you travel, the more chance you have that something can go wrong, whether it is a delay or lost baggage so I try to keep the things most important and useful in my carryons. For a weekend trip though, my carryon may be just my purse and I have narrowed down the true essentials to my travel purse.

I want to have things in my purse that will keep me occupied at the airport but also necessary if I hop right off a plane and head out on the town.
– My neck pillow is a god send. The one I have is much higher up on the neck and is seriously unbelievable, I never have nasty knots in my neck anymore after long flights!
– My Sony point and shoot camera is much smaller and lighter than my Nikon DSLR so it is always on hand in my purse. It takes great photos and videos and sometimes I am willing to accept a little less blog-worthy looking photos for the sake of convenience.
– Sunglasses are an absolute must. Even if you fly or arrive at night, you will never regret having them on hand.
– Books may be harder to find with each passing year but nothing beats a book in hand (the batteries will never run out) when you want to either stay occupied or put yourself to sleep!
– Essential toiletries. Some airports don’t enforce that “ziplock baggie” for small liquids anymore as long as you keep them under 3 oz but I like to keep all of mine in a bag for the sake of organization.

Nothing dries out skin like travel so I keep an intensive face-mask close by for use on flights or nights after I arrive. I keep my tea tree lotion for constant use while traveling because my skin tends to break out in the middle of a trip. Keeping with maintaining moisture is making sure I have an intensive lip balm (or two).

For makeup, I only pack the essentials in my purse which means my Dior BB cream for an all-in-one sunscreen/lotion/base and a travel-size mascara. I keep a small bottle of perfume for a quick way to feel a bit more refreshed. I like the rose-oil from Body Shop because it lasts a long time but does not smell so strong as to be offensive to other travelers. I often have a lip gloss or lip stain in my bag that can double for lips and cheeks when necessary but as long as I have these basics in my bag when I am away, I have nothing to stress!

  • Travel charger for your phone
  • Pens (seriously, you never know when you need this)
  • ID. Sounds dumb but please double check!
  • Bottled water – hydration is the key to everything

What are items you couldn’t leave home without having in your purse?
