The Original Hofbrauhaus

hofbrauhaus-11

The Hofbrauhas was  originally built in 1589 and restored in the 1800s. Part of the building was used for SS meetings during WWII so it’s no surprise that all of the rooms except the historic beer hall were destroyed in the bombings. In a poem he wrote, Mozart claimed to have written the opera Idomeneo after several visits to the Hofbrauhaus.

I think there were some original “hippies” back then because there was a “Bavarian Beer Purity Law” in 1516 that stated that only “natural ingredients” could be used in the brewing process. The beer saved the city in the 30 years war when the citizens paid in hostages and 600,000 barrels of beer to protect the city from destruction! You can try this life-saving beer yourself because they still use a lot of original recipes handed down by Wilhelm V, the Duke of Bavaria!hofbrauhaus-2hofbrauhaus-3hofbrauhaus-7hofbrauhaus-4hofbrauhaus-6hofbrauhaus-5hofbrauhaus-9hofbrauhaus

If you can’t make your way to Munich for beer you can head to the many new locations all over the world from Las Vegas to St. Petersburg, to Dubai, to Seoul (and many in-between!)
