Packing Tips for Long Trips

Packing for long trips can be a pain, especially when you have to keep under a 50 lb limit!  For this most recent trip we were packing for 2 weeks, 2 different countries, and 2 different climates. I tried to stick to basic pieces that I can wear multiple different ways in both the warm 70s and cooler 40s and 50s.

I started with coats. A long light duster coat (pink) and the heavier camel trench that doubled as a blanket on the plane. Not pictured are a beige faux-leather jacket and my favorite cape jacket.

For shirts, I kept to basics that can be layered and worn with anything from shorts to skirts  like these soft tees and sweater. I kept to a basic color palate of blacks/greys, pinks, and beiges from shirts to skirts to coats. Even the pink crop top can be worn multiple ways. I packed a couple simple, casual maxi dresses and a romper that can easily transition from day to night. I love wearing maxi-dresses on vacations because they are so comfortable and somehow make it look like you put more effort into getting ready than you really did! (Not pictured are the 3 outfits I brought for the Wedding and Bar Mitzvah we are attending because I changed those after I took these pictures and packed!) Shoes are the hardest (for me) because they weight the most and it is always harder for me to narrow them down! I stuck to mostly sandals and lighter shoes and wore my tennis shoes on the plane. To wrap it up, I packed 1 hat, a small backpack with a clutch inside & 2 swimsuits on the top of my suitcase, and carried a larger purse & a small bag of accessories in my other carry-on.

Stay tuned for future fashion posts on how I ended up styling these pieces! Do you think that I leave any travel staples out ?
