There is no denying that I have become a Vegasan (is that a word?) through and through since I moved here. I try and experience as much as it has to offer. One thing that had been lingering on my list til the other weekend was a trip to the Neon Musem.
The Neon Museum is sad, beautiful, fun, unique, and a bit odd all in one. I first found out about it when I was looking for a wedding photographer and found a lot of wedding and engagement pictures at this location. I even considered it for our own engagement pictures for a minute.
He puts up with all my silly requests….
We recently had the time to go check it out and I was so happy. If you want to take a tour, make sure to buy tickets early – they don’t allow you to walk through alone and tours sell out fast! The tour guide takes you through the winding path and talks about the lives and deaths of all of the signs. It really shows you the evolution of Vegas with the times – whether it is the space font of STARDUST from the Atomic era or the straight forward “steak and cocktails” sign of a restaurant of the past, the guide explains the role every sign played in this little town.
I wish the Aladdin was still around! Such fun pieces!
I have to be honest, as much as I really wanted to hear what the guide was saying (seriously, I did), he never gave us a really good pause for pictures. We found ourselves constantly trailing in order to get some decent snaps without hands and heads and feet all over them.
If you have time, I would definitely schedule a trip here. It is the perfect “Vegas” attraction without dealing with all the Vegas hassles and people. Tickets are $18 per person, $12 for seniors 65+, students, active military, veterans and Nevada residents. The night tour (they have 7 restored signs that light up!!) is $25 and $22.
