Menswear in a pinch

So as you may imagine, when we go on trips, I spend some time planning my outfits so that I can get some content for the blog as well as travel photos. On our recent trip to Munich and Salzburg I had 3 unique and fun outfits all picked out and packed and ready to go…and then we left my suitcase at the house. Yup, all my clothes, makeup, hair products and everything were 6 hours away from us when we got to the hotel. Oops.

Strangely, I had grabbed my boyfriend jeans as an extra pair of pants in my backpack with my electronics so I was able to take those and snag one of my husband’s shirts for a truly “boyfriend-inspired” look!

The rest of the look  – my shoes, jewelry, coat, and scarf – were pieces from the previous day. I am really low maintenance when it comes to my hair (I don’t even own a hair dryer!) so I wasn’t stressed about that. I went makeup free all weekend since all of that was in my suitcase too but I often go makeup free with the exception of chapstick and mascara and luckily I was having a good skin week. We did stop in a makeup store though to “sample” mascara in order to make myself a little happier. When I washed my face at night (with hotel soap! ick!) I avoided my eyes so that I would have some mascara on for the next day too.

This certainly isn’t a look I would have picked for myself but the reality is that the experiences are far more important than the clothes and so you can’t let little bumps like losing (or forgetting) a suitcase affect your mood and adventures. After all, the best thing you can wear is a smile.

Want a menswear-inspired look without forgetting your luggage? Here are some options I WOULD pack to wear on purpose!
