Exploring Texas Wine Country

texas wine country edit-2

It’s no secret I love a good wine. I love going to wineries for a tasting the different wines and talking to the staff, learning about the grapes and their history. On most vacations I will find somewhere that does a wine tasting as a fun activity.

There is a small German town in Texas Hill Country that is home to a serious “Texas Wine Country,” called Fredericksburg. When I lived in Texas I was able to make it out there a couple times so on a recent stay in Texas I made two more trips to this quaint little town. It is home to over 2 dozen wineries and I may have visited close to a dozen in two weekends! Here are my thoughts on some of the spots we visited!texas wine country-4

Grape Creek Vineyards

Grape Creek is one of the most well known wineries and offers either a tasting or a tasting with a tour. It’s a little pricey ($30) but it’s pretty cool to hear them talk about their wine making process if you haven’t seen a similar tour at another winery. All their wines are made with their own grapes and their wines are only sold at the winery as well. We loved their rosè but it was a bit pricey for my taste so I didn’t end up buying it.texas wine country-10 texas wine country-11texas wine country-13

Six Shooter Cellars

Six Shooter is a tasting room in a small group of other tasting rooms such as Fiesta and Armadillo’s Wineries. It is decorated in perfect Texas fashion and has a staff that is fun and friendly. They have some unique fruit infused wines as well and a wine-slushie that are perfect for summer tastings. It is a perfect spot to have a tasting, then move to the next tasting room and sit outside and listen to some music and nibble some cheese before moving on to the next tasting room! texas wine country-15texas wine country-20texas wine country edit-4

Messina Hof Winery

I think Messina Hof had the best wines of any of the wineries. It had a fun energy and let you pick your 5 tastings from any of the wines on their whole menu which is super fun. You can buy additional tastings for $2 as well, which is a great option. We didn’t explore much outside but it was cute like the rest from what we could see!texas wine country 2017-18texas wine country 2017-17

Torre di Pietra Winery

Torre de Pietra has a beautiful tasting room and vineyards. The reds were not my favorites but there was a white wine called “Dirty Girl” that would be perfect to sit outside with. They have a large outdoor patio where you can sit and enjoy the weather and vines. We saw several bachelorette parties doing just that!texas wine country 2017-12

Wedding Oak Winery

Wedding Oak has wines named as you would expect (“Bridal Blush,” “Wedding Night”) which is cute. The terrace is only available for those who are part of the wine club but the tasting room is cute. There is a little sitting area where you can get food and they have a little store where you can shop for flowers and other Texas-ish items.texas wine country 2017-8texas wine country 2017-5texas wine country 2017-7

Das Peach Haus

The Peach House is a fun country store + B&B + winery. They have dozens of delicious sauces and salsas for you to sample as well as some (non-alcoholic) peach cider. The ambiance is similar to a Cracker Barrel almost but with less  kids and more alcohol. Outside there is a beautiful small lake where you can sit and enjoy a glass or two if you wish. texas wine country 2017-20texas wine country 2017-23texas wine country 2017-14

Have you made a trip to Fredericksburg ? What is your favorite winery?
