Blogging without an Insta-husband

With the boom of bloggers and social media has come a generation of “insta-husbands” ….basically men who married women with a constant presence on social media but don’t have a photographer following them at their beck and call. If you follow any sort of fashion/lifestyle blog or instagrammer, you can assume most of the photos are the work of the men behind the scenes. It’s a thankless job but we may buy them a drink or let them take us flying every now and then in exchange.

Lately, my own insta-husband has been out so I have had to get creative to maintain my blog and insta-feed! Luckily I have been able to hit a couple festivals with friends who have snapped a photo or two for me but the truth is I am pretty uncomfortable asking most other people to take a photo of me…it all feels a bit narcissistic I suppose!

My tripod still has not arrived, along with the rest of our household so I had to use the hill behind our house as leverage and the auto-timer on my camera to take a photo…not the best way at all! I took the dogs out too so they could get some exercise (and so I didn’t feel like a complete idiot taking photos alone) but they were not EXACTLY the same amount of help as Shai….

Like I said….that auto-timer….

So here are my tips for blogging when your insta-beau is out of town!

  1. Tripod
If you have the time and space, this is really the best way to get some solid photos.
  2. Selfie-stick
Yup. Get one. I do not condone walking all over tourist spots with one or affecting other peoples experiences (I’m looking at you people at amusement parks and concerts…) but if you are like me and hate asking other people for help…there isn’t really a better way.
  3. Blog about a different experience
I have been lucky to do something new every weekend while Shai has been away so I have had other things to talk about and show you.
  4. Prepare in advance
It is always good to plan some blogs ahead of time. I like to have a week’s worth of posts ready on Sunday night so I can worry less about having things to post and focus on engagement during the week instead.
  5. Blog less
Not the ideal answer but sometimes you just need to scale back. Since moving to Germany I have posted about 3 times a week instead of my previous 5. I still feel comfortable with this amount of blogging because I am posting on instagram 1-2 times a day as well

FYI this isn’t the best DIY camera angle…

So how do you guys think I did without my photographer? (P.S. the answer you need to post is that I did awful without him so he needs to follow me around forevaaa taking photos for the blog, k?)

Xx
